New Creation Certificate
in Biblical Studies

This one-year program is designed to immerse students in the study of Sacred Scripture. It will equip them to read, understand, pray, live, and teach Godโ€™s Word, which is the Churchโ€™s primary and most valuable text. The two-semester sequence of courses progresses from theory to practice in three stages: Opening the Word: Introduction and Interpretation (what the Bible is, how we got it, how to read it, and how to pray with it); Hearing the Word: Survey and Summary (an overview of all 73 biblical books and their harmonious contributions to divine revelation); and Ministering the Word: Practice and Proclamation (living and leading others to live Godโ€™s Word in our post-Christendom age).

Unique to this program is a Christo-Canonical approach to the study of Scripture in which the person of Christ as the one who reveals God to creation is the subject matter that gives order to the entire Bible, which is the ‘canon’ (the authoritative collection) of Sacred Scripture (hence ‘Christo-canonical’). This offers an important alternative to standard historical-critical and salvation-historical (e.g., Bible timeline) models. The biblical texts, we will see, often speak in ways unconstrained by history or time, since the God to which they point comes to us from outside of both.

The program culminates in a distinguished certificate of achievement, recognizing graduates as those who, by virtue of their studies, have been equipped to love, live, and minister Godโ€™s Word in the context of home, church, school, and world. The program is especially designed for parents, catechists, teachers, missionaries, clergy, and consecrated religious.

The Program

FAQs

Who is the ideal student for this program?

This program of study is open to any and all who have a heart for the Lord and wish to pursue a deeper training of how to know, love, and teach his Word. Just as the hearts of Cleopas and his companion were burning after breaking open the Scripture and Sacrament with the Risen Jesus (Luke 24:32), so our Lord desires the same experience for each of his disciples in every age.

The ideal student of the program is one involved in ministryโ€”formally or informally. Each session is designed to bring the individual person into a deeper encounter with our Lord as he reveals himself in the Sacred Page, as well as equip him or her “for building up the body of Christ” (Eph 4:12; cf. 2 Tim 2:2).

Near the completion of the program, students will have the opportunity to apply what they have learned to “on the ground” ministry, preparing examples of leading a home group or bible study, teaching a lesson in OCIA or CCD, preparing a homily, instructing classroom students, or a variety of other ministry settings.

How much does this program cost?

One of our primary goals is affordability. The Certificate Program costs $800 for laity ($400 per semester) and $600 for clergy ($300 per semester). These can be paid in full or in monthly installments (see registration page or reach out here).

Each semester consists in twelve-weeks and includes extensive handouts with each class session. In-person students will also have access to the videos for every class, in the event you need to be absent for any reason. If price is an issue at all, please contact us or take advantage of our “pay what you can” option. We want you to have access to this material, this training, and the blessed community which forms around it!

Are there other payment options?

Yes! You can choose to pay in full or in monthly installments throughout your training. If price is an issue at all, please contact us or take advantage of our “pay what you can” option. We want you to have access to this material, this training, and the blessed community which forms around it!

I was never a natural in the classroom. Will there be assignments or tests?

Donโ€™t fret. There are no graded tests or unexpected quizzes in this program. There will be plenty of recommended reading, and there will be opportunities for engaging both teachers and peers. At the end of the program, students are invited to create a short study/paper that will help them translate their classroom experience to ministry experience.

Can I complete this program online?

Yes! All New Creation Certificate courses are recorded and posted online in the class portal. You can even take them outside of their given term. Distance students can expect opportunities for online discussion and interactive sessions with the instructors and other online participants.
