Heaven, Help the Home: God’s Blueprint for Marriage and Family

The Church is blessed with a rich heritage and abundant resources on marriage and family, including revered papal documents with which many Catholics are familiar. In this light one might wonder what more can or needs to be said.
The present course will complement these Church teachings and the critical issues on which they touch by delving directly into Sacred Scripture, with a view to exploring firsthand the Bible’s own treasure of divine insight and timeless wisdom from the Master Architect of marriage and family himself.
Under the subheadings of The Family Formed, The Family Deformed, and The Family Reformed (or, The Family Formed, Fractured, and Functioning), this course will explore the Bible’s most defining passages on such topics as: God’s vision and mission for marriage and family, roles of husbands and wives, why we experience conflicts and how to resolve them, how to parent children who love the faith and walk with God, how to cultivate and maintain love and intimacy, and more. We will unpack some of the widely misunderstood concepts like ‘headship’ and ‘submission’, as well as penetrate to the heart of both the challenges and immense blessings of building our homes God’s way.
Heaven, Help the Home is not a counseling, therapy, or support group in the usual sense, but an informative and inspiring study of God’s Word and its transformative message for those who wish to build their marriages and families according to God’s blueprint revealed there. Students will discover the truth, beauty, and goodness of marriage and family as God designed it––not merely in terms of a theoretical ideal, but as an attainable reality. Marriage and family are God’s idea, and we know that his plan works. This is a course on learning to work the plan, where the practical how and the biblical what and why are conjoined, with abundant examples and illustrations drawn on the instructor’s own marriage and ministries of more than fifty years.
